We can change lives in our community, one meal at a time.
Did you know that more than 16 million children in America live in households struggling with hunger? That means 1 in 5 children don’t always have enough food to eat. We believe this is unacceptable and that, if we work together, it can change.
While rural areas feed our nation, they struggle with food insecurity just as much as cities do. More than 3 million rural households have a hard time meeting their food needs. In fact, the highest poverty rates in the country are found in rural, non-metropolitan counties.
Hunger impacts kids in a variety of ways. Food insecure children don’t develop and grow as well as other children. Growth and physical development may be the most visible sign of malnutrition. However, even mild and moderate malnutrition can have a negative impact on a child’s brain development, which can seriously affect how they learn, think and process information. More than 60% of teachers nationwide report kids in the classroom “regularly” come to school hungry. These children often have difficulty learning and may have social and behavioral problems.
The effects of child food insecurity are serious and can last a lifetime. We know there are children in our community struggling with this problem right now. So we are asking for your help. We have made a commitment to lead a significant local fund-raising effort as part of a national initiative spearheaded by Nutra Blend. Drive to Feed Kids™ is a collaboration between Nutra Blend and partners in the feed industry to increase awareness about childhood hunger and raise money to feed children in need.
